They removed his vent tube today! Michael's ventalator tube was removed today at lunch time. So he is back on the "bubble C-pap" (still ?). A pretty big step forward, and a sign of good progress.

Though he still has the pmeumothorax on the left. He also has some areas of the right lung that are showing issues (don't remember what they called it). Probably due to him lying on the right side to help with the left. So the PT comes in every once in a while to thump on his right side to loosen up the right lung. This doesn't wind up being a problem for very long. Just a day or so.

But since his vent tube is out, we can hear his squeaky little cry again. He also got right back to sucking on his pacifier. He works it pretty good. A very good developmental sign for mouth feeding.

I also sent out this e-mail today around 5:00p:

Our baby boy, Michael Aaron Musa, was delivered on June 30, 2006, at 9:34 pm. He was quite early at 31 weeks, but a relatively hefty 4 lbs, 12.5 ozs, and 19 inches long.
He has been having some lung issues during these first few days of his life. However, he appears to past the worst of it and is starting to make progress. At one point he had a breathing tube put in, but mainly as assistance to his natural breathing. The doctors were planning on removing the tube after lunch today, so hopefully when we head back to the hospital that will be done.

Other than his lungs, he is a very healthy baby boy. He is showing a lot of spunk and doesn't seem to like to be constrained very much (maybe that's why he was early). he has been getting nourishment through an IV, but has recently been getting breast milk through a feeding tube since he has the breathing tube. Once the breathing tube is remove he will be able to start to learn the whole swallowing thing.
