It's Shower Time! (Oh, and a big day for Michael, too) Today was the day of our baby shower. Originally planned to be over a month prior to our baby's arrival. Hmmm, "The best laid plans" as they say.

Anyway, since we were going to be busy around noon, we decided to brave the early world and stay up after Gretchen's 6:30a pumping. This way we were able to be at the hospital for Michael's 9:00a feeding.

While he was not very awake, it was time to try a bottle. He went in fits and spurts, but with a little perserverance on our part he did completely finish the 45ml bottle. Well, there may have been 1 or 2 ml left, but who's counting. It took a little over 30 minutes, and both of us had a shot at it, but he did it.

After that excitement we had to leave to get home for the shower. It was a very nice event, with a very good turn out. We even had several people come in from out of town, including my aunt Bev from Houston and Gretchen's grandparents from California. Michael received a lot of very nice outfits for many stages of his growth. We also got a few of the bigger items we will be needing. Thanks to all who planned and participated in making it happen.

With the shower over, we made it back in time for Michael's 6:00p feeding. There we learned that he also finished his bottle at 3:00p. And this time in only 20 minutes. Again, the magic touch of Ruth. Two times in one day, and only 6 hours apart. Additionally, he is now upto 50 ml. To answer a question we have heard, 30 ml is about 1 ounce.

With this much excitement in one day, we figured it would be best to let Michael have a little down time. So instead he had his first shot at breastfeeding. He seemed to take to this fairly quickly. We were not expecting much for his first go, but he seemed to do a pretty good job of latching on and even sucking. He probably didn't get very much milk (maybe a few drops), but these were very good first steps toward a full run of breastfeeding.

Can't wait to find out what tricks he does tonight. Sarah is his nurse tonight, so it should be good. She was the nurse on duty the first few nights after he was born. Another of the many great nurses Michael has had the pleasure of experiencing at the CDH NICU.
